I
t is a pivotal era for the NFBA Technical and 
Research (T&R) Committee. We are currently 
spearheading a comprehensive update to the Post-
Frame Building Design Manual, the definitive 
resource for structural engineers in our field. This 
revision is strategically timed to align with the 
recently released IBC-2024 building codes and ASCE 
7-22 structural load standards. Beyond standard 
updates, the new edition is slated to include expanded 
chapters on mechanically laminated columns, 
purlins and girts, advanced connections, and truss 
integration.  Three design example chapters are slated 
to be added as well.  These examples will provide 
additional guidance on developing the details of post-
frame design.
Advancing Research & Representation
The T&R Committee—a collaborative body of 
engineers, academics, and industry experts—
serves as the NFBA’s technical voice. 
Meeting thrice annually, these 
volunteers oversee rigorous research 
and subcommittee initiatives funded 
by your membership and the NFBA 
Foundation.
Our mission extends to direct member support. 
Technical Consultant Andy Williams serves as the 
primary liaison for member inquiries, addressing 
critical topics such as code compliance, fire-wall 
design, and roof diaphragm strength. Members can 
access these resources via the NFBA website or by 
contacting the technical team at technical@nfba.org.
Standards and Code Advocacy
NFBA members hold exclusive access to the ASABE 
Technical Library, which houses the four cornerstone 
IBC reference standards for post-frame construction:
