Installationofthe220SeriesroofwasapprovedbyWestinghousethrough itsagent,itsarchitect.ThefactthatTri-StateRoofingsuggestedsubstitutionofthe220SeriesroofisnotsignificantbecausethesubstitutionwasapprovedbyWestinghouse.InthewordsoftheCourt,thegeneral contractorandtheroofingcontractor"oughtnottopaybecauseWestinghousechosethewrongtypeofroof." MRCAMEMBERDISCOUNTS- AVISRENT-A-CAR Foranumberofyears,wehavehadanarrangementwithAvisRent-A-Car System,Inc.wherebyMRCAmemberswereentitledtoa20%discountoncar rentalratesuponpresentationtoAvisoftheMRCAmembershipcard. WehavebeenadvisedbyAvisthatdiscountswillnolongerbegranted ontheirnew"cleancutrates".AccordingtoAvis,thenewratesare alreadypre-discountedbyatleast20%.Accordingly,thenexttimeyou rentacarfromAvis,checktoseeifyouaregettingtheir"cleancut" rate.Ifso,therewillbenoadditionaldiscountbyvirtueofMRCA membership. ROOFERSLOCALORDEREDTOPAYDAMAGES INNON-UNIONPROTESTS NationalLaborRelationsBoardAdministrativeLawJudgePaulWeilhas orderedRoofersLocal30(Philadelphia)topayfordamagecausedinthree violentprotestsagainstnon-unionbuildersduring1973,1974and1975. JudgeWeilfoundmembersofthelocalunionresponsibleforbeatings, vandalism,destructionandthreatsagainstnon-unioncontractorsand theiremployeesandorderedRoofersLocal30to"makewhole"thebuilders "foranyrepairorreplacementofequipmentorsuppliesorrehabilitation ofbuildingsnecessitated"bytheviolence. JudgeWeilfoundtheacti vitiesofLocal30tobe"ultimatelycoercive" in violationofSection8(b) (1)(A)oftheTaft-HartleyAct(interfering withandrestrainingemployeesintheexerciseoftheirrighttojoinor notjoinaunion). JudgeWeil\'sorderisarecommendedorderwhichdoesnotbecomefinal untiltheinvolvedpartieshaveachancetoappealhisdecisiontothe LaborBoard.It appearsthatappealisvirtuallycertainand,accordingly, theNLRBwillreviewthecasebeforehandingdownafinalorder.'
