b'Presidents MessageEXTREME WEATHER AND SAFETYBill Seibert, MRCA PresidentA s spring has quickly faded into summer, construction season is in full swing around most of the country. The weather has a lot to say about this time of year and you can tell it wants to be heard. We have seen a lot of extreme weather in the past few years and how it can affect our industry.Early outbreaks of thunderstorms, hail, derechos, and tornados are something to be aware of for more and more areas of the country.Even if you luck out on direct storm damage, you may still have the aftermath to deal with like flooding and power outages. This is true for our contractors but also for those who work hard to supply the contractors with what they need.Remember to prepare for these types of unexpected events as best as you can.Be conscious about your shop, material storage, jobsites, and employees, and try to communicate with your industry partners on possible emergency plan options. Another important thing to consider during this season is safety. Talk to employees about how to be safe on the jobsite as summer high temperatures expose workers to the potential for heatstroke, dehydration, and fatigue which can also lead to accidents, injuries, and even fatalities. Once someone suffers from any kind of heat-related illness, they are often prone to experience it again even with less intense heat exposure.Questions about heat illness safety? Remember if you are an MRCA Member, you can take advantage of your Legal Services Plan.Use your one free call a month to MRCAs Legal Counsel, Gary Auman, to seek advice on how to improve your Companys safety program and reduce these types of incidents. ANDdont forget to take advantage of the MRCA ELITE Safety Award Program! Active MRCA-member companies with well-documented safety and risk-management programs are strongly encouraged to apply. For just $500, select sections of your safety plan will be reviewed confidentially by MRCA Legal Counsel, Gary Auman. Last, but not least, MRCAs 73rd Annual Conference & Expo is coming up this October 18-20 in Omaha, NE. We will be back at the CHI Health Convention Center and the adjoining Hilton. We had a great show in Omaha back in 2018 and we expect nothing less in 2023. The MRCA Board and Committees have been working hard over the past several months to put together a new and improved schedule of events packed with the level of education and safety training you and your crews have come to expect from MRCA. Registration is now open! Just visit www.mrca.org and click on Conference for all of the details. Hope to see you there!Bill SeibertMRCA PresidentFisher Roofing of Kearney4 www.mrca.orgMidwest Roofer'
