Wemodifieditslightly in 1970,butbasicallyit remainsthe sameformofguaranteeaspreparedin1961.Literallyhundreds ofthousandsofcopie~of thisguaranteehavebeendistributed to ourmembersandtononmembers.Copiesoftheapprovedguarantee foTill1970Aand1970Bareenclosed.In1961forthefirsttimewe wenttoaresort hotelforourconventiontheoldElmsHotelin ExcelsiorSpringsiMissouri.Wehadtheentire hotel andspilled overintosomeadjoiningmotels.It wasoneofthemostenjoyable conventionsin myexperience.However,it wasnotwithoutcontroversy.Thecontroversialsession wastitled"PouredLightweight ConcreteandGypsumDecksPositiveFailures 0andit concerned wetdecks.Zonolitewasreallyupin armsaboutthisoneand threats oflitigation filledtheair.A courtreporter wasin attendancetorecordeveryword.Alsoin attendanceforthefirst timewasWilliamC.CullenoftheNationalBureauofStandards in Washington,D.c.,whohasbeenaconsistentfriendofour Associationsincethattime.Anunannouncedspeakeratthe luncheonwhichprecededthesessiononwetdeckswasRichard Bolling~CongressmanfromtheFifthDistrictofMisaouriaman whowtteilsthebigstickinCongressandcontinuestobethe representativefromthisdistrict.AttheluncheonDickBolling hadafewwordstosaywhichIthinkcooledtheardorofZonolite initsquesttofilelitigation againstMRCA.Inanyevent,that lawsuitneveroccurred.Inalighter vein,it turnedoutthat theElmsHotelwhichwasconstructedaroundtheturnofthe centurywassoconstructedthatabathroomservedadjoining rooms.Asyoucanimagine,thisproducednoendof revelry. InJanuary,1962,withRobertL.KaderofDesMoines,Iowa servingasPresident,MRCAconductedits firstmanagementsession at theNebraskaCenterforContinuingEducationin Lincoln, Nebraska.Thegroupaccidentaldeathanddismembermentinsurance coveragewasapprovedatthattime.Theconventionin 1962was heldat theHotelFortDesMoines,DesMoines,Iowa.Considerable emphasiswasplacedonT&Rmattersasyouwillnotefromtheenclosedprogram.Wehadgrowntoabout4~boothsandbytheend ofl962wehadonhandover$16,000.Ourconventionshadbegun toattractpersonsnotonlyfromacrossthenationbuteveninternationalrepresentatives.AtDesMoineswehadasourspecial guestMr.DenisReid,aroofingcontractorandmanufacturerof roofing materialswiththefirmofD.Anderson<D., Sons, Manohester,England.
