b'At United Way of The Greater Dayton, we provide resources to support a network of programs andservices to help those in immediate need as we invest in the creation of more strong individualsand families in our community. Meet RickRick moved to Eaton from California to be with family following a brain cancer diagnosis. He is amedical miracle who beat his cancer and recovered quite quickly from major brain surgery. Followinghis recovery, Ricks family helped move him into an apartment a couple of blocks from The CommonGood, who helps supply essential needs for people in Preble County. He came in nearly every day andquickly made friends, however his family started to come around less. The staff began to visit withhim each day he came in and soon realized Rick was struggling. He was struggling to find the rightwords to express his needs, he was not oriented to time and days of the week, and he was unawareof available services that could help. The staff at The Common Good developed a relationship withRick and identified his needs. They helped him obtain medical insurance for Ohio as his had not beentransferred from California, connected him to the Preble County Council on Aging, and assisted himwith food as needed through the food pantry. This is just one example of how working together, non-profits like The Common Good, Preble County Council on Aging and others assist with basic needswhile providing a sense of connection.UWGDAinvestsmillionsofdollarsannuallyinourcommunitytoguaranteeandcoordinatetheavailabilityofessentialresourcesandservicesforpeoplelikeRickandthousandsofothersinMontgomery, Greene, and Preble Counties.
